The role

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â are looking for a full time Ranking Product Owner to own the methodology and delivery of the Sub-Saharan University Ranking and Arab University Rankings and potential associated products or rankings. These are data products (encompassing numerical data collection, validation and production).

This is a great opportunity to drive the product ownership of the Sub-Saharan University Ranking (SSA Ranking) and Arab University Rankings. We produce the SSA Ranking specifically to assess the impact of universities in addressing some of the toughest challenges faced in the region, with a focus on teaching, skills-building and societal impact. The Arab University Ranking was created to reveal the strength of higher education across the Arab region and has a stronger focus on research.

You will become the subject matter expert on these rankings and on higher education in these two regions, and will be responsible for ensuring high quality delivery and continuous improvement. You will have access to technical and operational expertise to assist you in delivering this. The successful applicant will have the aptitude, attitude, and gravitas to make this role their own.

Key role responsibilities:

  • Be accountable for the delivery of the SSA and AUR rankings, working in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all deadlines are met; 
  • Collaborate with the Project Sponsor and Data Science team to enhance and review our ranking methodologies; 
  • Develop in-depth understanding of the particularities of higher education in Africa and the Arab region 
  • Set up, configure and monitor our data collection system (collecting university data) 
  • In co-operation with the QA Manager: 
  • Ensure the quality, validity and applicability of the data collected; 
  • Drive the data validation, including designing and documenting processes and approach for our validation team, and overseeing their work. 
  • Suggest ongoing improvements in data validation processes 

Skills and experience:

  • Demonstrable experience using Excel for project tracking and numerical data analysis 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ability to provide complex information concisely and clearly and adapt approach to various interlocutors 
  • Experience negotiating difficult and complex projects with various parties 
  • Experience providing progress reports and summaries to various levels of internal *and* external stakeholders in an authoritative and informative manner. 
  • Experience in leading a data project from the design stage to the delivery stage 
  • Experience in developing and managing team members 

Desirable:

  • Experience in performance assessment, with a good understanding of both the conceptual aspects (framework building) and technical aspects (data requirements, mathematical modelling options) 
  • Knowledge of global higher education, esp. Africa and the Arab region 
  • Knowledge of data analysis using tools such as relational databases (SQL or otherwise) 
  • Experience in setting up distributing or monitoring surveys in various platforms e.g. QuestionPro, Alchemer, IFF or alternation platforms. 
  • Public speaking as subject matter expert
