An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced education events producer to join the Times Higher Education events team as Head of Content to lead and oversee the content for our portfolio of global events.

The Head of Content will work on Times Higher Education’s global events. Reporting to the director of global events, you will be responsible for end-to-end content delivery of your own events and have sign-off authority and responsibility for speakers, topics and formats across the events portfolio. You will be expected to encourage innovation and improvement from previous events and oversee work in partnership with our host partners to produce high quality programmes that reach both parties’ objectives. The ideal candidate will be passionate about higher education and be prepared to proactively foster and build relationships with stakeholders across the sector.

You must have demonstrable experience of successfully producing events within the higher education or a closely related industry,. You’ll need to be used to a fast-paced environment, be an innovative thinker and have the ability to research and discover key topics and the best speakers. You will have a creative approach to be able to spot opportunities that add value and enhance the experience of our stakeholders. You’ll need to be confident talking to senior leaders and stakeholders.

You will play a leadership role in delivery our global events, in partnership with our host partners.

Key Responsibilities

Programme research and development

  • Oversee work in partnership with host partners to produce high quality programmes that reach both parties’ objectives
  • Have sign-off responsibility on decisions for speakers and formats across events, to ensure the content meets internal KPIs and supports Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â’s brand and strategic business goals, from conception through to completion.
  • In partnership with the director of global events and head of marketing, provide coaching/support to host partners throughout the event cycle to ensure that they are fully supported at every stage
  • Guide and motivate the content team, to ensure that we have compelling propositions, innovative content delivered by world-class speakers and premium networking opportunities.
  • Project leadership throughout event lifecycles, ensuring programme development meets deadlines in accordance with event work plans
  • Work closely across the wider Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â business to ensure that we showcase Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â products and solutions at our events to support strategic priorities – hiring and branding solutions, editorial, datalabs, consultancy, Campus.
  • Collaborate with the sales and sponsorship teams to support the engagement of potential business partnerships at our events to reach financial targets
  • Manage initiatives that enhance the portfolio, deliver results against priorities, and improve processes in planning and execution.
  • Lead the content team to ensure that it leverages the value from the content created from our events.
  • Host Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â events and take on-stage role as moderator/interviewer in sessions where required
  • Attend competitor events and keep a close eye on the market to ensure the continuous evolution and development of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â event content, formats and propositions
  • Collaborate with the wider Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â team to identify opportunities on event programmes that support the wider business portfolio
  • Participation in meetings with host partners. Client liaison skills are a must.

Content delivery

  • Recruit senior level, high-quality speakers to participate and ensure quality is consistent and balanced
  • Ensure event programmes are compelling and thoughtful to attract speakers and delegates to attend
  • Draft ‘best practice’ speaker briefs on the event themes and discussions
  • Ensure that all speakers involved in Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â’s events portfolio have a positive experience through its high-quality speaker liaison
  • On-site co-ordination of speakers and other key stakeholders, stage management and liaison with AV team to ensure a seamless production

Driving attendance, marketing and prospect management

  • Write compelling programme abstracts and website copy to help market our events
  • Clarify the event value proposition for interested parties
  • Contribute to the production of effective marketing collateral
  • Engage with key influencers of the market and generate interest in the event
  • Support Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ¿â’s events engagement strategy to build a community around our events
  • Identify potential fringe event and collaboration opportunities to drive event revenue and support the objectives of corporate and higher education partners

Experience and Skills required

  • Proven and demonstrable experience successfully producing international events, ideally within the higher education sector
  • Confident and talented self-starter who can hit the ground running
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with senior leaders from government, NGOS, academia and industry
  • Commercially astute and entrepreneurial outlook in order to work on commercial events
  • Experience of work with media and communications
  • Ability to work to agreed deadlines, working well under pressure
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills in order to manage and prioritise workload
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including spelling, grammar and proofreading, with the ability to tailor style and approach to suit a variety of global audiences
  • Passionate about international higher education and global affairs
  • MS Office essential – Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Flexibility to travel overseas to events
  • Educated to a degree level
