Labs Safety Specialist - Labs Safety

(UAE National male is preferred) 

QUALIFICATIONS

Job Purpose: 

The Labs Safety Specialist will have the responsibility of conducting laboratory inspections to verify  laboratory compliance with guidelines established by government regulatory agencies, University  Guidelines, and general laboratory standards and to promote a safe and healthy environment for all individuals associated including students, faculty, staff and visitors through technical assistance, education, and regulatory oversight.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance to the Lab Safety Senior Specialist in implementation of environment, health, safety programs within the University. 
  • Assist campus faculty and staff in compliance with institutional policies and programs for chemical, biological, physical, radiation, laser fire, life, and/or environmental protection safety
  • Provide comprehensive support to the research community, including support of radiation safety, biosafety and Chemical Safety
  • Carry out inspections, incident and accident investigation and provide specialized technical expertise, as assigned.
  • Assess the hazards associated with the use of biological and chemical agents in research and teaching applications at the University.
  • Provide experienced support to the biosafety program and chemical hygiene program
  • Conduct evaluations of potentially hazardous areas and conditions, generate reports and advise staff, students, and faculty on safe practices for potential hazards.
  • Assist with investigations related to fire, health and safety accidents and/or incidents or exposures associated with laboratories.
  • Assist with the Chemical Inventory Program as needed.
  • Perform chemical spill cleanups and assist with waste chemical pickups.
  • Ensure compliance with Health Authority legislation, standards, codes of practices and KU guidelines.
  • Monitor Health protection as required by regulatory authority such as vaccination and Health 
  • Surveillance if required
  • Maintain Biosafety records and documentation
  • Assist in EHS induction, safety training and information to all lab users
  • Carry out risk assessment, review and ensure that control measures are identified, implemented and recorded in the risk assessment register
  • Work collaboratively to promote compliance and responsible behaviors as required by university policy and health, safety and environmental standards, codes regulations and best practices.
  • Adhere to the University's information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly
  • Coordinate with other departments to facilitate the accomplishment of tasks and responsibilities, as and when needed
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A Bachelor Degree in Health & Safety or related areas, related certification desirable. OSHA experience 
    is a plus
  • 1-2 years of experience for UAE Nationals
